Trip Details

Our hike will be on the Machame trail on Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Tanzania and Africa. At 19,341 feet, this highest freestanding mountain in the world has three distinct volcanic cones, two of which are extinct and one that could erupt again. It lies within the 756-square-kilometer Kilimanjaro National Park, one of the few places on earth that encompasses every ecological life zone—tropical jungle, savannah, desert, montane forests, and alpine zone.

Day 2: Welcome to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)
Day 3: Community Service
Day 4: Community Service
Day 5: Trek begins at 6,800 ft. to Machame Campsite at 10,000 ft.
Day 6: Trek to Shira Campsite at 12,700 ft.
Day 7: Trek to Lava Tower and sleep low at Barranco Campsite at 13,000 ft.
Day 8: Trek up Barranco wall to Karanga Campsite at 13,100 ft.
Day 9: Trek to high camp Barafu Campsite at 15,400 ft.
Day 10: Summit day to Uhuru Peak at 19,340 ft. and back down to Millennium Campsite at 12,700 ft.
Day 11: Trek downhill through the rainforest to Mweka Park Gate at 6,100 ft.
Day 12: Optional one-day safari and evening departure from JRO.
Day 13: Arrive home.

A non-refundable deposit of $1,000 is required at time of sign up. Full payment is required 75 days prior to departure date.

  • If you are a single registering for one of our trips, we will try to accommodate you as a double with the same gender. However, if we are unable to make these arrangements, you will be responsible for the single accommodation cost of $750/person.
